The Canine Republic is the best dog training you can find!!
A little background on my dog Charles. Charles owned our house. He ran around the house, he took food off of the counter tops and barked at everything that came near the house. His leash skills were terrible. Lunging at every dog or person that would walk by. He is an 80 lbs dog and you can imagine this would scare other people and even ourselves at times.
Finally it was time to get help. We called Kim at Canine Republic. Kim knew exactly how to talk to us and to engage us. She knows that the dog cannot be fixed if the owner is not fully engaged and prepared to make drastic changes. I wanted to have a dog that respected me and was also my best friend. I knew that Charles and my relationship could not grow if he always believed he was in control.
Kims instructions are straight forward and easy to learn. We started out with one on ones at home. These trainings are slow and steady. You go at your own pace. If you cant do the homework after the training session then just try again the next week. There is no deadline. Just how comfortable you feel moving forward. They are the building blocks to gaining back control.
Charles and I eventually moved to the board and train Kim offers. I had high expectations and needs for Charles and I felt those would best be gained by adding the board and train services. I feel more comfortable with a dog I can take anywhere. Hikes, beaches and restaurants are things I want to do and I want to have my dog with me when I do them. These tasks were all laid out with Kim before the board and train. We meet up twice a week to go over these tasks. They were amazing. Every training session was better than the last. We accomplished everything on our lists and then some. Once Charles came home from board and train we then had to train Charles to act the same with me at home as he did with Kim. This all was laid out in a step by step process. It was so easy to follow we had zero problems when we brought Charles back.
Charles is now the happiest I have ever seen him. He gets more exercise and love than ever before. He is able to explore this world more than he ever could. I cannot express the happiness that is with me and my Charles. Our bond is closer and exploration is endless. All thanks to Kim!
Thank you Kim and The Canine Republic. There is no alternative trainer.
Working with The Canine Republic transformed our lives. I know that this sounds dramatic, but it is true. Before meeting Kim, my husband and I had tried everything we could to control our dog’s growing anxiety and aggression toward strangers and other dogs. We had become hesitant to take our dog, Zissou, on walks or out around town and had even stopped having people over to our house entirely out of fear that she would bite or hurt someone. At this point, we met Kim and everything changed! Due to the severity of Zissou’s issues and how quickly we wanted to see progress, we decided to do a "Board and Train" with Kim and we are so happy that we did!
While Zissou was boarding with Kim, we would meet up with them multiple times a week for training sessions. These sessions were as much about training Zissou as they were about training my husband and myself. Kim gave us the confidence and the skills to be the leaders that our dog needed. Because of the board and train experience, our relationship with our dog has completely changed. We are able to feel confident having her out in public and we have even been able to throw a couple of parties at our house without worrying that Zissou will bite or lunge at anyone!
One of the most incredible things about working with Kim is the support that she provides not only during, but after you finish your sessions with her. Kim is always happy to answer questions though text or over the phone and makes herself available to meet up with you if there is an issue that cannot be solved remotely. She has even invited us over to her house for some dog socialization! This continued support makes the process of bringing your pup home and continuing the training so much less daunting. Kim truly makes you feel like you are part of her pack, and we feel so lucky to have her as our leader in this dog training experience!
All the best,
Jaclyn, Aaron, & Zissou, Los Angeles
We first met Kim in the group classes, by this time Louie was about 1 year old and was already reacting to other dogs, not to mention pushing his way through boundaries in the home. Kim was so helpful in assessing Louie's issues almost immediately while providing helpful tools to assist in his training. Most importantly, Kim showed us how to look within and find the confidence and intention we needed to be effective leaders. We have worked with Kim through pack walks, private sessions and eventually a four week board and train. That four weeks made an AMAZING difference in not only Louie, but how we work with him. We continue to learn so much about empathy, thinking like a pack and strengthening that healthy inner confidence. Kim is all in with us and it shows in her commitment to not only Louie's success, but in ours as well. Her investment in each of her clients and their pups is truly extraordinary. I know we have made a friend for life and we are so grateful to have found her!

Kim helped us have a relationship with our dog when we thought we would have to surrender her. Our dog was not easy by any means and Kim showed us how to lead and provide structure in ways that helped Pebbles grow immensely!

I am forever grateful to Kim for all that she has done, and continues to do, for our dog Bodey and our family. Bodey is a big Bernese Mountain Dog who struggled with life in our family as a puppy. Kim helped us understand the structure that Bodey needed, and she helped me understand how to empower myself. Bodey is now the dog our family dreamed of. He is by no means perfect, but Kim has taught me how to understand his behavior and how to correct problems that may arise. Bodey is thriving and Kim is now part of our extended family.

I wasn't able to trust Tucker anymore after several bite incidents. After Kim's help it's as though my dog and I have met for a second time. Before meeting Kim, my dog and I began mis-communicating somewhere along the way. Kim helped teach us to speak the same language, empowering me to be the pack leader, which rebalanced & enriched my relationship with Tuck.

We met Kim a couple of years ago in group classes. She was our teacher for a couple of courses there, and then we went on to take more courses with her, in addition to private session, boarding and ongoing consultation for our extremely leash reactive dog. We met Kim when we were truly at our wits end and had no idea what to do or where to turning dealing with our Axel. Kim immediately made us feel safe, comfortable and capable. In fact, after almost a year of never being able to take our dog out in public, after our very first class, we had lunch with him in a public courtyard. It was amazing and magical! She has helped us build our confidence and has given us so many tools to understand a difficult dog. Kim has become our guru! We have so much love and respect for her. She is a gentle leader. She is calm and compassionate. She’s been a true friend in this journey of building a healthy relationship with our dog. Aside from being an amazing animal handler, she’s understanding, patient and is constantly learning and teaching. our family cannot give Kim any higher recommendation as a trainer, a teacher, a friend and a confidante, except to say that we consider her one of the smartest, most loving and trustworthy people we know!

I don’t even know where to start with Kim. We first met her through group training, where we learn so much. Kim has the perfect personality for her job; her passion for what she does is evident in everything she says and does. Before Maui went to The Canine Republic for a month long board and train, we were having a major disconnect even though I felt like I was “trying” everything. Although she had the sweetest demeanor, our walks were no longer fun because she was pulling, lunging, smelling obsessively, and reacting to every little thing. I wouldn’t even think of taking her in public because it was hard, embarrassing, and I was afraid of what would happen. That month was truly a reset for myself and for Maui. Since then we have both progressed so much. Kim is not only our trainer, she is our cheerleader also! It is not just about dog training, it truly is about a lifestyle, and you have to be willing to work on your energy and attitude just as much as you work on your dog’s. Kim has been such a huge part of our lives since then. I truly feel like she finds joy in seeing her clients (both human and canine) thrive - and just as much as she wants to break down and help you through any challenges. She puts her heart and soul into her work. While Maui was with Kim, she truly became a part of their family. I felt, and I’m sure Maui felt, like she was part of their pack. As a dog owner I can’t tell you how much that means to me. I trust Kim and her family implicitly with Maui’s care, and even Simba’s even now long after our board and train is over. She knows Maui so well and loves her as much as I do. I truly feel that.

I’m forever grateful to have found and chosen Kim as a trainer. her level of commitment and personal investment in my success was above and beyond. Kim really took the time to cater the training to suit not only Max’s personality, but my own as well and paved the way for a happy and healthy life with my dog. I'm happy to be part of The Canine Republic pack for life!

Kim did a four week bootcamp with our 9 month old pup, Zoe, and it was hands down the best decision we ever made! She gave Zoe, and most importantly, us, the tools we needed to support a balanced dog. Zoe comes to work with us every day and we were having trouble with reactivity with other dogs and people. We felt a little out of control with her behavior. Kim taught us the tools we needed to keep Zoe’s excitement and anxiety downs that she would be happier, more calm dog. I can’t say enough about the support Kim provided to us. She taught us a lot about intention and energy when it comes to Zoe, which has made a massive difference. In addition to the practical tools she gave us through training, Kim is extremely responsive and easy to work with. We have very busy work schedules and Kim always found a way to make it work. We met up with her weekly and she sent us tutorial videos of Zoe’s training through the weeks. Post bootcamp, we have done a couple refresher sessions and she’s always quick to help us out over the phone if we need it. Kim is the best thing that ever happened to Zoe and us! I cannot even begin to explain how worthwhile it was to work with her, I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Working with Kim and The Canine Republic has been a life-changing experience for myself and my dog, Stella. When I first rescued Stella it was an impulse decision and I knew she may have some anxiety issues to deal with from seeing her in the shelter kennel and being antagonized by other aggressive dogs. Her body language spoke of her shrinking and trying to keep to herself. Over the course of 4 years, Stella's behavior worsened. I was consistently fixing the physical damage caused by her anxiety and aggressive reactivity but never dealt with the root of her acting out. It was stressful for me (not to mention costly) and I know Stella fed off of my stress. We met Kim 2 years ago and after taking group socialization class that she leads, I felt really comfortable starting private one-on-one sessions for Stella and I. Kim’s ability to be firm in her teaching as well as showing patience while we dog owners get over our own emotional hurdles to develop a balanced AND healthy relationship with our dog should not be underestimated. As Stella and I continued to make progress, I invested in a six-week board and train. I say “invest” because it truly was what Stella needed to fully come out of her shell and quickly grow into the happy-go-lucky, playful dog that I never knew I had. Kim has trained this human and my lovable dog to develop a respectful relationship where there are healthy boundaries and trust. Our lives have been forever changed for the better! I have so much gratitude and appreciation for the tireless work and attention The Canine Republic gives to each client. We're a part of a pretty cool community of pack leaders and confident dogs! Much love!

I can't say enough about Kim Erickson and The Canine Republic! The Canine Republic was the answer to my families prayers. My daughter rescued Stella (Border Collie) from horrible conditions in a shelter that was being closed. Stella didn't do well with interacting with other dogs or some people. She was also destroying my daughters home and injuring her self when she left her alone. Because of Kim and The Canine Republic, Stella is a happy healthy Border Collie, enjoying a dog's life! Kim knows exactly where to start and how to get to the underlining issue. She then goes to work on addressing the issues, one by one. The work and turn around with Stella is nothing less than a miracle! When I saw what she had done with Stella, I wanted Kim to work with my puggle, Carlitos. I wanted to learn how to have a better experience while walking him. Carlitos pulled a lot as we walked, wasn't very friendly with other dogs and gets very anxious when he rides in the car. Kim showed me how to gain Carlitos trust and exercises that allowed him to see that I lead and he should follow. That all comes with him trusting me. She also showed me that he was responding to my energy so it wasn't just about him but me as well. All of this happened in a 1 hour session! I couldn't believe how much progress we had made in 1 HOUR! Each time I have worked with Kim I have seen immediate results as we address the issues one by one. I have also learned a lot about myself and how to adjust my behavior and energy which has had a positive outcome with Carlitos. I also use The Canine Republic to board Carlitos when I am traveling and that gives Kim a chance to do more training with him interacting with other dogs. I have seen a complete turnaround with Carlitos in such a short period of time! I am so amazed with what Kim does to bring us and our dogs to a safe and happy place that I pass her cards out to every Veterinary Hospital I can and refer her to any friend with dogs! I highly recommend The Canine Republic for your dog. It will change their life and yours too!

If I had to use one word to describe Kim, it would be “badass”. She treats all her clients like family and truly cares about your fur babies. I couldn’t take my dog, Coco - who’s very nervous and sensitive, anywhere before but with Kim’s guidance, we’ve overcome numerous obstacles. I recommend her to everyone! She truly wants to help you and your dog live your best lives together.
